Misogyny
Kate Manne has managed to publish a popular book about how misogyny works to disempower women. (That’s Kate Manne’s Down Girl). This bolsters the women’s empowerment movement expressed via #MeToo, #TimesUp and #NonethelessShePersisted.
So, I have an idea, that can drive this moment further.
What if everyone pledged to #ResistMisogyny?
That means, first of all, do not perpetrate misogyny.
Controlling misogynistic impulses is difficult. Our cultures are hardwired for misogyny. So: try being a countercurrent. See if you can.
ALSO: pledge not to consume misogynistic media. Don’t listen to the t.v. shows or watch the netflix movies or engage with all the other vast amounts of media that so casually & seemingly endlessly build their empires via all the various elaborate misogynies.
That means: did Harvey Weinstein produce it? Then don’t watch it.
Rinse & repeat.
Amazing great art is produced that empowers women and girls. See Ra Reads for books we love.
So, join me in #ResistMisogyny. Pledge not to perpetrate it, and also not to consume it.
